Singapore Pools – A Responsible Gambling Company

Singapore Pools was established in 1968 to combat illegal gambling activities and offer people who bet a safe, trusted venue. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore’s Tote Board and reporting to its Ministry of Finance, Singapore Pools operates non-profit with surpluses being distributed via this channel back into charitable causes within Singapore thereby supporting community needs.

Singapore Pools recorded record revenues of almost $9bn during 2019/2020 financial year in bets on lotteries and sports, of which 70% was returned to winning ticket holders, 22% was collected as tax revenue, and 5% went towards operational expenses. Furthermore, Singapore Pools contributed over $2bn through CSR efforts and grants as well as supporting illegal gambling by working closely with National Crime Prevention Council to integrate responsible gaming messages into anti-illegal gambling initiatives.

Singapore Sweep was introduced into their product lineup in 1969 and 4D was added in 1986, providing betting options on football, motorsport and horse races that can be completed both online and at their outlets.

It has helped transform Singapore’s volatile, risky gambling scene into one that is safer for consumers and families, thanks to responsible gaming programs and social safeguards which have contributed to an increase in self-exclusions among Singaporeans who struggle with gambling addiction.

Singapore Pools has taken steps to safeguard both employees and customers against coronavirus infection, including restricting staff movement in order to minimize crowding, employing queue management systems at outlets, providing free bottled water, as well as encouraging its customers to remain healthy by practicing caution, regularly washing hands, and getting vaccines.

Singapore Pools utilizes its nationwide digital signage network – PADS4 – to spread responsible gaming messages throughout its outlets and branches. PADS4 allows them to display event updates, lottery results and betting updates via real-time XML data connection.

Singapore Pools strives to ensure consistency in the delivery of responsible gaming messages across all channels, such as its retail outlets and ATMs, Singapore Pools website, e-services portal revamped in 2022, as well as information on gambling addiction and self-exclusion.

CSR team at this company have also increased the impact of its Community With A Heart football fundraiser by engaging partners and communities on a collaborative journey, leading them to earn recognition by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre as part of its Company of Good — 3 Hearts recognition, awarded for outstanding contributions demonstrating corporate purpose adoption across four key areas – People, Society Governance Environment. It is the highest honor presented under this initiative.
